Miriam Nilofa Crowe is a New York-based lighting designer for theater, dance and music. She currently designs regularly for Latin Grammy winner Lila Downs, Ko-Ryo Dance Theater, Nerve Ensemble, The Drilling Company, Manhattan Children’s Theater, and Benjamin Bagby and is an associate lighting supervisor at the Lincoln Center Festival, where she has worked since 1996. Some favorite recent projects include Flags (Firefly Theater @ 59E59), Woman in Waiting (Farber Foundry), Beowulf (Lincoln Center Festival), The $trip and Phenomenon (Nerve Ensemble), Frag (TALR), The Designated Mourner (Cleveland Public Theater – sets, lights & costumes), and The Intelligent Design of Jenny Chow (Yale Rep).

She has lit concerts by musicians as diverse as Hugh Masakela, Gidon Kremer, Tito Puente, Abdullah Ibrahim, Rufus Wainwright, DJ Spooky, Beth Orton and the Bang on a Can Marathon at venues such as the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Baryshnikov Arts Center, and City Center for Music and Dance.

Over the years, her work has also been seen at Yale School of Drama, Yale Cabaret, Yale Dramat, BAM Next Wave, Juilliard, Fordham, Chautauqua Conservatory, Bermuda Festival, Connecticut College, Michael Mao Dance, NY Fringe Festival, HERE, PS 122, Connelly Theater, Adirondack Theatre Festival, Target Margin, Active Eye, The Women’s Project, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Peabody-Essex Museum, and online at Pseudo.com.

She has a BA in English from Yale College ‘96 and an MFA in Design from the Yale School of Drama ’05.
