Scott Bolman Lighting Design

Scott’s recent New York designs have included the world premier of Charles Mee’s new play Gone at 59E59 Theaters, Hecuba (NYU Experimental Theater Wing), Black Snow (The New School) The Collected Works of Billy the Kid (Columbia University), Harvest (La Mama ETC) and the premier of Shen Wei Dance Arts’ Map at the New York State Theater (2005 Lincoln Center Festival). Off-Broadway credits include Happy Days (Classic Stage Company) and The Moonlight Room (Beckett Theater/Theater Row). Scott has also been the resident lighting designer for the 2003 and 2005 NYC Butoh Festivals and created lighting environments for performances by The Orchestra of St. Luke’s and the Seattle Sympony Orchestra.

Outside New York, Scott has designed lighting for The Taming of the Shrew and Fighting Words at the Yale Repertory Theater, Hyppolytus and Chuck Mee’s The Bacchae 2.17 for Princeton University, Rumours, Educating Rita, Art, Seussical, Bedroom Farce, Oliver! (set and light design) and Shakespeare Goes to Hollywood for Hope Summer Repertory Theater, and numerous events for theater and dance companies in Seattle, including Lingo Dancetheater, Acorn Dance, Civic Light Opera, the Hyperion Theater Company and Theater Under the Influence.

Scott is in the ongoing process of re-creating the lighting for some of Jennifer Tipton’s opera work, including Don Giovanni at the Bunkamura Theater (Japan) and the San Franscisco Opera and The Magic Flute at Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie (Belgium), L'Opéra de Lille (France), théâtre de Caen (France), the New Israeli Opera (Israel) and Teatro di San Carlo (Italy). He is also collaborating with Jennifer Tipton on an architectural lighting installation to mark the opening of the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center in Troy, New York. Scott graduated Magna Cum Laude from Amherst College (Amherst, MA 1997) and received his MFA from the Yale School of Drama (New Haven, CT 2003).
