My name is Zane Pihlstrom. I’m a set and costume designer residing in NYC. I’m currently working on scenery for Food for Fish, opening at the Kraine Theater and directed by Alexis Poledouris; scenery and costumes for The Zero Hour, opening at Yale Summer Cabaret, based on the life of director Tea Alagic who grew up during the Bosnian war. Both productions are opening in July. In November, you can see my work at PS 122’s American premiere of A Kingdom, A Country, or a Wasteland in the Snow, directed by Yana Ross.
My recent design work includes costumes for A Midsummer Nights Dream and As You like It at the Yale School of Drama as well as scenery for Hedda Gabler and Yale Repertory Theater’s production of Alls Well that Ends Well. I was resident scenic and costume designer for Yale Summer Cabaret’s 2005 season where I designed Woyzeck, Piano Plays, Self Accusation, and Pre-Paradise/ Sorry Now. Other productions include Evita (Northwestern University), Until We Find Each Other (Steppenwolf Garage), Don Juan Returns from the War, Selkie, and Anna Karenina (Myrle Reskin Theater, De Paul University).
I also have a passionate hobby for designing fantasy body makeup. I’ve painted models for photography, film and fashion. I’m inspired by transformation, and strive to blur the boundary between my work as a makeup artist and costume designer.
